SCALE

What is SCALE?

School Communication & Language Enhancement — a structured school programme for practical English communication.

SCALE is built around a simple idea: students need repeated opportunities to listen, understand, respond, speak and interact in meaningful classroom situations. It does not replace the English subject; it creates structured opportunities to use the English students are learning.

The communication gap we address

  • Students may know English but struggle to understand spoken instructions.
  • Some hesitate to answer or express ideas spontaneously.
  • Classroom discussion may reach only a small number of students.
  • Vocabulary and pronunciation gaps can limit participation.
  • Students may have limited opportunities for real-life English communication.

What makes SCALE different

  • Activity-based and student-centred.
  • Real classroom communication practice.
  • School-friendly, timetable-conscious delivery.
  • Minimal infrastructure requirement.
  • Structured observation and progress reporting.

Phonics as a communication tool

A key SCALE differentiator is the way we bring phonics into communication practice. Rather than treating sound work as an isolated early-literacy exercise, SCALE connects sound awareness with pronunciation, listening and speaking. Students work with letter sounds, common sound patterns, difficult sound combinations, stress, intonation and reading aloud — then carry that learning into actual communication.

Hear → notice → practise → pronounce → communicate.
